A Javelina, also called a Collared Peccary, are something that we have here in Arizona. They are not Wild Boars--they are in the Peccary family. Hippopotami are in the same family as the Javelinas. They came up here from South America. They are night creatures, and they I believe they are vegetarians. They can weigh between 35 and 65 pounds, and they usually travel in packs of one male with a female "harem". They will all sleep in a pile. My neighbors here found a pile of them in the back of their condo one morning sleeping on the landscape rock! The only reports of injuries from the Javelinas are when people feed them, something you should never do with wild animals.
