Lapis Lazuli is certainly the crystal of ancient kings and queens. This crystal was well known in ancient Egypt as well as other ancient cultures. In fact, it is probably the first crystal I think of when I think of that time. I also associate ancient Egypt strongly with Carnelian, Turquoise, and Jacinth. It is said you cannot lie if you wear Lapis...

Lapis Lazuli works best on the Throat Chakra. It helps to expand your awareness and your intellectual capacity It allows you to communicate emotions that help to release old thoughts, opening you up to the spiritual realms. This crystal provides a joining of the physical plane and the celestial plane. Used with Rutilated Topaz, Lapis can shield your aura and expand it. This is another good crystal to combat depression. Lapis worn or carried will protect you from psychic attacks as well as physical danger. Lapis Lazuli is also a Blue Healer.

Blue Healers are connected to the Spiritual Chakras (Heart Chakra on up), so they heal at a higher vibration of energy. Healing spiritually raises our energy level significantly and allows that high energy to drift down into the lower bodies--Physical, Emotional, and Intellectual, healing all at once. Azurite, Shattuckite, Lapis Lazuli, Lazurite (the blue in Lapis Lazuli), and Lazulite are more of these glorious Blue Healers. Many of the Blue Healers are very rare, but Lapis Lazuli was well known, even in ancient Egypt. The addition of Copper makes blue, green, and blue-green crystals, but the blue is the rarest.

The blue in Lapis is Lazulite, the white is Calcite, and the golden flecks are Golden Pyrite.
